Program Shadows at ESACC
Excelsior Springs Area Career Center’s shadowing experience provides you the opportunity to make an informed decision regarding the programs offered at ESACC. Shadow visits provide CTE exposure to students and assist in ensuring that their program of interest is a good fit. Shadow visits are a REQUIRED component of the application process. Applicants must complete a shadow in order to be considered for placement at ESACC.
Steps for securing a shadow appointment:
- Access the shadow calendar website HERE- SHADOW VISITS MUST BE SCHEDULED AT LEAST 3 DAYS IN ADVANCE
- Shadow appointments are currently not available for EMT or Fire.
- To see available shadow appointments access each program's calendar.
- Available dates are shown in blue font.
- Find a date that works for you
- Select 7:30 button for morning session or 11:30 button for afternoon session
- Enter details
- Click schedule event
- A calendar invite will be sent to your email address
- SHADOW VISITS MUST BE SCHEDULED AT LEAST 3 DAYS IN ADVANCE.
- Complete the requested information in the description area of appointment dialogue box.
- Email/Scan the shadow waiver form.
- Complete the shadow visit exit form once you've completed your shadow experience.
What to expect:
In order for you to have a positive shadowing experience please follow the guidelines listed below. You should come prepared to work when shadowing any of the programs at ESACC.

- Look at shadowing like an interview.
- Be alert in class and participate in group discussions and lab assignments.
- Take notes.
- In some programs, you will be paired with another student. Ask that student questions about the class, instructor, and ESACC as a whole.
- Bring a pencil/pen and something to write on.
- Dress appropriately as if you were going to a job in your area of interest:
- Shadowing Automotive, HVAC, Carpentry, or Electrical Trades: boots and pants are required.
- Shadowing Carpentry: dress to work outside in inclement weather.
- Wear pants that fit around your waist. Baggy pants can be a safety hazard in some programs and is not appropriate for the workplace.
- Blouses must cover the midriff and chest.
- Ask questions in class.
- ESACC students are only allowed to use cell phones during break time.
